Looking for the best typical restaurants in Rome where locals eat? The Eternal City has many things to offer, besides an enriching heritage, discovering local Roman cuisine is in the top of the list of activities to do during a trip to Rome! That's why you shouldn't miss the opportunity to step into the best typical restaurants of Rome: Spaghettone alla carbonara, Saltimboca alla romana, bucatini al'amatriciana ... Tested and approved, recommended by numerous people, I share with you these addresses of best typical restaurants in Rome in which you absolutely must stop to eat during your city trip in Rome!
This typical Roman restaurant is ideal for lunch after a walk in the Sant Eustachio area of Rome. Located not far from the Pantheon, you will find typical Roman dishes and a local clientele. Be careful because there are two almost identically named restaurants in this square (they are named after each other): a more chic (and more expensive) Casa Coppelle, perfect for the evening, and a more traditional one (perfect for lunch): Osteria Delle Coppelle. The restaurant is located in the centre of Rome, but in a small alleyway away from the tourist traffic, which makes for a pleasant lunch break. On the same square there is a small local market which is very nice! I recommend you to try the polpette al sugo, a real treat!

It is ranked as one of the best restaurants in Rome! I was quite sceptical at first, a restaurant that busy, where you sometimes have to queue for hours to get in... I wasn't exactly interested. But during a lunch break during the week, we passed by and saw that there was room, so we took a chance! Verdict ... It's really very very very good. The prices are a bit high for a pasta dish (about 17€) but it's definitely worth it. The big plus of this Roman restaurant is that the pasta is home & hand made! You can actually notice the cooks making the pasta at the entrance of the restaurant! On the other hand, don't expect a warm welcome. The service is icy, rushed, typical of a place that shuffles hundreds of covers every hour. I recommend that you go during the week and arrive as early as possible to avoid the queue. Note that they have three locations: two where you can't book, and one where you can.

This restaurant, located a few steps from the famous Spanish Steps, was recommended to us by a friend a few years ago and is, in my opinion, one of the best typical restaurants in Rome. I always go there during my city-trips in the Eternal City! You will enjoy a traditional Roman menu. If you have the opportunity, ask for a table "in the garden" when you book. It's a small veranda at the back of the restaurant, very charming. You can also eat in the street, under heaters in winter, which is quite pleasant!

This time we're going to change the neighbourhood a bit! Let's go to Trastevere, the old labour-district of Rome, now the trendy neighbourhood to party and discover the local culture. We don't really change the type of cuisine, in this article I share with you the typical Roman restaurants that are a must, so let's continue on this path! Trattoria Da Enzo is a typical restaurant where you will have a great time discovering the Roman cuisine. It is more than recommended to make a reservation if you want to eat there because it is not a very secret address unfortunately.

Another typical restaurant in Piazza Delle Coppelle! I admit, my flat was right next door, so I checked out all the local addresses. But just like Osteria Delle Coppelle, this restaurant is a must during a city-trip in Rome. I confess: you eat the same thing and one or the other is equivalent. So if you don't have a place at one, go to the other. I recommend this restaurant for a lunch in the sun to enjoy a pasta alla gricia with a small glass of wine.
