You don't know where to stay in New York but your trip to the Big Apple is just around the corner? This post is for you! Yes, during my various trips to the Big Apple, I've been able to test out different accommodations in NYC and to come up with a list of the best hotels in New York and places to avoid. From tips on which neighborhoods to stay in - to what options to pick, I'm sharing my detailed experience with you. Let's go and find out all my tips on New York travel accomodations. Let's go!
Trip to New York: which neighbourhood to sleep in?
- A visit to Central park
- heading to Time Square
- visit the Rockfeller Center and go to the Top of the Rock
- visit Summit One Vanderbilt
- attending a Broadway Show
- walk down the 5th Avenue
PS : if you are looking for a lot of activities, I recommend the New York City Pass !
On the other hand, if you have already had the opportunity to visit New York for the first time, I advise you to look for an accommodation a bit further from Downtown. This will allow you to discover NY from another angle.
The ideal plan in my opinion? If you are going for a full week, book 4 nights in Midtown first and then 3 nights in another area. Whether it's Soho or Brooklyn, discover another part of New York City! It'll feel like two trips in one.

My personal advice
Luxury Hotel prices in NYC
In addition to the rather high prices, don't forget that the communicated tariffs do not include taxes or tips. For hotels, taxes are normally added automatically at the time of booking to avoid surprises. But remember this if you are going to a restaurant, for example. As far as tips are concerned, you should not add them in hotels but in other establishments such as restaurants. When you get the bill, you should pay attention.
To reduce your costs, the best thing to do is to get to NYC outside the school holidays. Going to NYC in the middle of the Christmas period obviously did not please our wallet because it was really expensive!

Here is a list of accommodations I have stayed in during my trips to New York! I recommend them because I have not been disappointed by any of them. If you are still wondering where to stay in New York, you'll find the answer in the list below!
- The Standard (Meatpacking) : Incredible hotel with a view on New Jersey. It has a rooftop which is quite famous. A nightclub is also located in the hotel so if you don't want to be disturbed by the noise specify it when booking.
- The Bowery Hotel (Soho) : We stayed there during our last stay in New York. As I said above, the hotel needs a makeover but we loved the charm of it. It was like being out of time! And the comfort was more than there.
- 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge (Brooklyn) : This hotel offers the most beautiful view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan. If you are lucky enough to go in the summer, there is also a swimming pool on the roof! The hotel is superb, made with ultra warm materials like wood, plants everywhere... We loved it!
- Hilton (Midtwon) : Hotel of the worldwide chain. Clearly not very hype but it was a great compromise location / comfort for a first trip.
